HISTORY OF COMTOISE CLOCKS - TWO-PIECE DECORATIVE PANELS. The emergence of embossed decorative sheets in 1810 and their development in the 19th century.
BERND DECKERT / COMTOISE CLOCK MUSEUM
I have been dealing with Comtoise clocks for decades and yet it was only last year (2022) that I looked at two-piece decorative panels with different eyes. You will certainly be able to understand the insights I have gained from your own clocks and will also notice that there are *extremely rare* Comtoise Clocks, which we have actually all previously viewed as completely normal examples. In addition, the practice of assembling the two-part, and later one-piece, arched shields provides further clear evidence that the production of Comtoise clocks was never industrial, but always proto-industrial.
“It’s certainly exciting to read about what we’ve all overlooked so far.”
