French ‚Borne’ type „ Thermomètre“ clock of Louis Philippe period topped by the freestanding movement. Rosewood case with floralfrontside metal inlays of brass and silver colour. Silvered dial with Roman numerals surrounded by a plain casted brass ring. Semicircle aperture in the upper part of dial for looking at the working Brocot escapement, auxiliary dial for second hand. 8 day spring wound movement of Paris type, half and full hour striking on bell, locking-plate striking system, authentique BROCOT escapement with red rubins, Breguet type steel hands. Steel pendulum suspension spring. Spring of going trai is scratched: Brocot 1842 217. Backside of dial and dial ring are numbered: 217. Backplate of movement is marked: Brocot BREVETÉ. Lokk at Tardy: Dictionnaire des Horlogers Francais, page 100.... Louis-Gabriel Brocot invented this type of escapement and got a patent in 1840. The dial is signed: DEVIENNE LAMY ST.QUENTIN. Look at Tardy, page 184. Measurements of the case - height x width x depth: approx: 49 cm x 26 cm x 17 cm - lenght of pendulum 27 cm - weight of clock: 4,3 KG. This clock was made in 1842. Pendulum and key had to be replaced during restoration work but fort he rest we guarantee that all parts of this clock originally fit together. Price upon request
