French bronze and marble ‚borne type’ clock of  Napoleon III. period. Case made of three parts whose base and upper parts are made from black marble while the middle part is made from bronze, topped by a big ornated brass bowl. Brass feet and ornaments. White enamel dial with Roman numerals coverd by glass and surrounbded by an ornated brass ring.

8 day spring wound movement of Paris type, half and full hour striking on bell, locking-plate striking system, anchor escapement, ornate brass hands. Silk suspension with fine adjustement from the back of the movement.

Movement marked on back plate: Médaille d’Or Japy Frères - 2998. Look at: TARDY Dictionnaire Des Horlogers Francais, 1971, pages 325/326.

Japy Frères got a gold medal in 1849.

Measurements of the case -  height x width x depth: approx: 48 cm x 25,5 cm x 13  cm – weight of clock: 8,2 KG.

This clock was made approx. 1850.
